The difference between eastern(1 byte) Smileys(Emoticons) and Japanese ones(2 bytes)
Apparently Japanese Smileys(Emoticons) are read vertically, when eastern Smileys(Emoticons) are read hosizontally. And Japanese face marks have much more kinds of variation than eastern ons.

Hiromix is a young Japanese photographer born in Tokyo in 1976. She has already published three photo books. More than anyone else, diminutive Hiromix defined the "Onna no ko no shashinka" (girl photographer) revolution of the early 1990s, which was characterized by disposable cameras and snapshots documenting the everyday lives of teenaged girls who, it appeared, spent a great deal of time in their underwear, pouting.
